Thank you Frisco
The election results from June 14th are in and unfortunately they are not what we had hoped for. After eight days of early voting and twelve hours of voting today the final, unofficial results are in. 1579 Frisco residents cast their vote for Frisco City Council, Place 5. We captured 723 votes (46%). Had 67 voters changed their mind the result would have been different. THANK YOU Thank you for the supportive emails and calls. Thank you for the campaign contributions. Thank you for donating your services. Thank you for hosting a meet and greet. Thank you for knocking on doors. Thank you for handing out flyers. Thank you for working the polls. Thank you for stuffing envelopes. Thank you for voting. Thank you for believing in me and my abilities to make Frisco a better place. Thank you for your personal endorsements. Thank you for calling and emailing your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers encouraging them to vote for me. Thank you for anything I may have forgotten. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of your life. Thank you for waiting an extra couple of days for this additional communiqué! Although disappointing, the Election Day activities and evenings festivities were exciting! We must always remember that whether or not we are happy with the outcome of any election America's democratic system is what makes us so special. CAMPAIGN AFTERMATH Sunday was filled with family time and recovering from the campaign. There are still plenty of things that need to be done to wrap up the campaign but expect to have things back to normal within a week or so. Monday focused on work, oh yeah, I have a full time job! What's next for Tim? I've applied to participate as a member of Leadership Frisco Class XII. I'm reviewing Frisco Board vacancies and plan on applying to serve. 2009 Campaign for Frisco City Council - I'll have to wait and see J Right now I am going to enjoy time with family and friends, old and new! The time spent by family, friends and volunteers was staggering. Before ever waging a campaign, take a leave of absence from work! We are so fortunate to have had so many people volunteer their time, and so much of it! We could not have been as successful without the donation of time. From website development, branding, marketing, design, networking, etc. the team's talent was truly on display. The frantic pace of the campaign did not allow for every idea to be utilized but the input was appreciated as every tune and tweak made the campaign stronger. Don't think that your unused ideas were wasted. Should there be a campaign next year, I expect to utilize many of them! Final cost has not yet been calculated but I imagine in the neighborhood of $8,000, including in kind donations. Donations of treasure exceeded $3000. Donations are still appreciated as we need to retire as much of this debt before considering a run next year. Any amount is greatly appreciated! Send donations / make payable to: Tim H. Nelson for Frisco City Council INTERESTING ELECTION STATISTICS May 10th General Election - Place 5 (removing the other two candidates votes) Nelson 44.90% Crowder 55.10% June 14th Runoff Election - Place 5 Nelson 45.79% Crowder 54.21% June 14th Election Day Results (removing early voting totals) Nelson 50.89% Crowder 49.11% (Viewing the trend, it looks as though we ran out of time) 2008 Runoff Election - Place 5 1579 votes cast (Frisco Population 100k+) 1999 Runoff Election - Place 1 1653 votes cast (Frisco Population ~30k) (Very sad trend. Thanks to Jim Tupper for the 2008 and 1999 runoff statistics) DAMAGE TO VEHICLE My car was damaged by a Frisco Fire Department Brush Truck on Election Day! I was not in the vehicle when the accident happened. I joked that I knew that the Frisco Firefighters Association was "backing" Bart, but they didn't have to "back" into my car. Damage was relatively minor, but I expect it to cost in excess of $1000 to fix. Believe it or not the accident didn't faze me and I spent most of my time consoling the rookie firefighter that was driving the vehicle that backed into mine. I received an immediate call from Mayor Maso and Fire Chief Borchardt. Both were incredible apologetic and kind. No worries. CLOSING Please continue to send me your ideas, suggestions and concerns about our city. I will continue to do my best to champion positive growth utilizing values based decision making. As I have mentioned along the campaign trail, the best ideas do not always come from those sitting on our boards or our city council. Some of our greatest ideas and vision come from our residents. Please communicate your ideas to those that can make a difference so that we can all live in an even better Frisco. All credit for this campaign's success go to those that have given extensively of their time, talent and treasure! I'd also like to especially thank my wife Candice and my children Jonathan and Claire for putting up with my long days, longer nights and lack of family time over the last 90 days. Regardless of this outcome I am truly blessed having the family and friends that would support me through such an effort.
An amazing run that unfortunately ended in defeat.
